Roman Reigns won with a spear on Dean Ambrose at 16:50 to once again earn a title shot at Wrestlemania that no one wants to see. How this even made PPV I have no idea, unless they desperately needed to chop 10 minutes off the main event. And so Axel got the fluke rollup victory at 2:10 in a terrible match. The storyline here was that Goldust wants to be Truth's partner, but both guys are completely incompetent. The crowd was killed off by a pointless Edge & Christian interview segment before this, and then the Social Outcasts finished the job. There were quite a few times when they looked like they were having trouble getting into the groove, but thankfully the crowd stayed with them and it was the best match on the show to that point. The story was Jericho getting increasingly angry and frustrated at his inability to put Styles away, which led to AJ taking advantage and reversing him into the Styles Clash and Calf Crusher submission to finish at 16:25. AJ Stylesĭespite a bit of a struggle, the crowd was with them the whole way with dueling chants, and this was the most heated thing on the show thus far. It wasn't terrible, but it was way too long for what they were trying to do. Brie was just way out of her league here and blew all kinds of stuff, as sadly wearing Daniel Bryan's kickpads didn't give her Bryan's timing or ability in the ring. Brie BellaĬharlotte retained the title with the figure-eight at 12:27, in a match that I'd call better than expected, but still not good. Clearly Kane or Big Show could have taken the loss, and no one cares about Ryback anyway, while the Wyatts are going to be involved with Brock Lesnar at Wrestlemania. Mostly it was just Kane getting beat up by the Wyatts, leading to Ryback making the comeback and pinning Luke Harper with the Shellshock at 10:44 in a nonsensical result. Thankfully they've backed off the ridiculous Braun Strowman push, as original rumors were leading toward the Undertaker match at Wrestlemania. John Leyfield promised that this would be "monkey butt ugly," but really it was just kind of dull. Fun match, but not up to the level of the usual Owens PPV classics. But in the end, Owens kicked him low and then retained the title with a pop-up powerbomb at 15:10. As usual, it built slow, with lots of chinlocks from Owens, but got really hot at the end with Ziggler making his comeback and a bunch of superkicks near the finish. Despite Ziggler getting a couple of wins on TV, he never really felt like he was in danger of winning the title here, although he appeared to suffer a shoulder injury early in the match, so that might explain it. Owens and Ziggler have been having a series of good matches on "RAW," and this was another good one between them. *** Match #2: Intercontinental champion Kevin Owens vs. The heels weren't going to be able to do anything super complex, so they kept it simple with good heat from the heels on Becky, and built to Sasha's comeback to make the fans happy before the Bank Statement finished things off at 9:50. Pretty good opener! It's always easy to have at least a decent tag team match by following the formula of cutting off the babyface and cutting the ring in half, and that's exactly what they did here. MORE: WWE wrestlers, UFC fighters who became actors Match #1: Sasha Banks & Becky Lynch vs. Naomi & Tamina If you don't care about him, then this was a tough show to get through, I'd think. This was a decent show, but it's been a long time since the product has felt this ice cold leading into the biggest show of the year, and they're literally ignoring everything else on the card to push Roman Reigns as the only star worth caring about. WWE is once again on the Road to Wrestlemania, and once again Roman Reigns gets shoved down our throats whether we like it or not.
